Orientation
At the start of each year we take the students away for 2 weeks of orientation and teambuilding. Most of these activities take place in Dartmoor National Park, Devon which is in the South West of England.
Bushcraft
The students are taught survival and bushcraft skills as part of their course. They will, for example have the opportunity to make a fire using only natural materials. The bow and drill method is demonstrated in the video below.
Servanthood
All throughout the year we have opportunities to serve the communities we come into contact with. In this instance we served at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility which happens to be a working dairy farm.
Climbing and Knots Basic climbing skills are taught and followed up with practical exercises. We also teach knots and their associated usages.
Christmas Kids Club The students' first local outreach project happens in the form of an all-day Kids Club. They are responsible for the whole event, from advertising, planning and all the entertainment on the day.
Visit to Reculver We take the students on a number of local field trips, this one was to look at the Roman ruins in Reculver.
Class Time Lectures take place primarily at the Jubilee Community Centre, however we do sometimes stay in to have discussions or presentations around the dining room table.
Motor Mechanics We do cover basic motor mechanics theory and then the students have the opportunity to apply the principles being taught.
Missions - Tanzania 2008 This year we sent a team of 10 to Tanzania on a 3 week mission. We were there to assist with various projects working alongside a local charity and church in Nyasaka. We funded and built a new sewing room that will be used to help widows and unskilled ladies to get trained up in all aspects of sewing. We also ran a 5 day primary healthcare clinic, providing care and training for the local community.
